Jewish Studies is a small but growing field in China, as is the study of Hebrew and Israel-related subjects. Below are brief descriptions and links to some of them. Institute of Jewish Studies Religious Studies Department, School of Philosophy at Nanjing University
Founded by Prof. Xu Xin, this Institute has trained a generation of professors of Jewish Studies who now teach in other programs across China. The Institute has the right to issue PhD degree to students.

Center of Jewish Studies Shanghai
Founded by Prof. Pan Guang, the Center of Jewish Studies Shanghai is one of the most influential research organizations that specialize in Jewish culture, history and contemporary Israel. Major publications/books by this Center include: "Jewish Civilization," "The Road to Jewish Renaissance/Recovery," "Jews in China," "Jews in Shanghai". Visitors are welcome to visit the Center upon request in advance.
School of Jewish Studies at Henan University
Founded by Prof. Zhang Qianhong, herself a student of Prof. Xu Xin, the School of Jewish Studies is part of the Department of History and issues degrees up to the Masters level.
Center For Judaic And Inter-religious Studies of Shandong University
Founded by Prof. Fu Youde, this research center is one of the important bases in the field of humanities and social science studies recognized and sanctioned by Ministry of Education. Its focus is on Judaism and philosophy, but it also branches out to inter-religious and cross-cultural studies. In the past 10 plus years, the Center has taken on 35 research projects, and published a total of 440 papers and 70 books in specialized subjects, translated 35 books. The Center’s main academic publication is “Jewish Studies.”
The Center of Judaic and Chinese Studies, Sichuan International Studies University (SISU)
The Center of Judaic and Chinese Studies was founded in October 2006 by Sichuan International Studies University in Chongqing, China. Prof. Fu Xiaowei is the Director. The Center’s purpose is to help change the misunderstanding of and confusing about Judaism and Christianity among Chinese college students, and teachers in the study of Western literature and culture, so as to promote a better understanding of the Jewish people and Jewish culture in China.
Institute of International Relations at Yunnan University
Back in the 30s of the 20th century, Na Zhong, MaJian and others traveled to Egypt and studied at Al-Azhar University. Upon their return, they laid down the foundation of International Studies, especially Asian and African Studies. The advantage of Institute of International Relations of Yunnan University is largely in research and teaching related to South-East Asia, South Asia, West Asia and Africa. Its current director is Prof. Xiao Xian.

Hebrew Linguistics and Cultural Studies at Oriental Linguistics and Cultural School of Beijing University
Department of Oriental Language and Culture at Beijing University was first established in 1946. It is a university with a widest selection of classes in Oriental Languages; it is also one of the oldest teaching and research institution. Students can major in Hebrew (Israel) Language and Culture etc, a total of 12 professional and cultural majors, and 7 different institutes such as the Hebrew Cultural Institute.

Center of Jewish Studies at Heilongjiang Academy of Social Science The Sino-Israel Research and Study Center, was established in 2002 at the Heilongjiang University, School of Western Studies, in Harbin, China. In 2003 the Sino-Israel Research and Study Center established formal relationship with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for exchanging Doctoral candidates who will conduct their research in Harbin. Middle Eastern Studies Institute at Northwestern University (XiBei U.)
The School of Middle Eastern Studies at Northwestern University is one of the first research institutes approved by the State Council in 1964 among national colleges and universities that have international studies programs. This School’s main focus is on Middle East history coupled with contemporary studies in this field. It became the first school that graduated doctorate students in Middle Eastern Studies (1986). This School/institute has a research station for post-doctorate students of World History. Its main publication is “Middle Eastern Studies.”
